If This Time Lapse Video Of Delhi Being Engulfed In Smog On The Day Of Diwali Doesn't Scare You, We Don't Know What Will
Even though this is supposed to be the least polluted post-Diwali phase that Delhi has seen in four years, the city’s and NCR’s air feels like poison. I cannot imagine what it would be like for people with breathing issues to be going out right now. Schools have been recommended by the Delhi government to not hold outdoor activities for kids, for obvious reasons.
Many people from around the city shared the PM 2.5 levels in their area; anything above 50 is bad and at some places the levels even crossed 800 in Delhi. AQI India kept sharing all these updates and now the official page has shared a time lapse video, which is going viral.

The video was taken on the day of Diwali, and it shows how Connaught Place got engulfed in smog as the day progressed into the night. This is what the caption of the video reads, ‘A timelapse of Diwali day and evening, showing a smog layer covering the city already during the day'.
'As the light show at Connaught Place starts, others are burning fireworks and creating PM2.5 levels higher than 1500’.
It is astonishing to watch the video and actually witness the city being covered in pollution. In some places, Delhi MCD had to use water cannons to help settle the particulate matter and bring down the pollution levels.
Bursting crackers is not the only thing that contributes to worsening the air quality of the city but it sure is a major contributor. If this video has not convinced you that bursting crackers is choking us - quite literally - then nothing can.
